CityNet public safety radio system welcome 200th Subscriber

The CityNet Radio system linking pubs clubs and retail stores in Cardiff City Centre and Bay with a Police Officer monitoring CCTV at County Hall 24/7 365 days a year has welcomed its 200th subscriber since its launch in February 2018.

CityNet is managed by a partnership arrangement between the business crime reduction partnership Cardiff Against Business Crime, FOR Cardiff, the cities Business Improvement District, South Wales Police and M.R.S. Communications.

CityNet uses the latest digital Motorola radios to provide an effective town centre and Bay communications solution backed up with staff training to ensure the radio is used to the highest standards providing reassurance to staff and customers.

The system has more than proven its worth and has led to numerous arrests for shop theft and anti-social behaviour, the tracing of vulnerable missing persons and lost children and is integrated into the cities EVAC emergency procedures that are in place in case of major incidents or disruption to services.

The Chair of Cardiff Against Business Crime Paul Hurley QPM said

Nick Newman the Chair of Cardiff Licensees Forum said

‘CityNet is a fantastic system and key to helping us work with our partners to ensure Cardiff is a safe and welcoming place for a night out. My colleagues including bar mangers and door staff are in contact with the Police if needs be, the Street Pastors, Alcohol Treatment Centre, the FOR Cardiff Ambassadors, Homeless Outreach workers and the taxi night marshals. In a vibrant city like Cardiff an effective communication facility like CityNet is vital and having been party to its set up I am really pleased to see it working in practice and exceeding our expectations respect of users and effectiveness of the scheme’
